Sony Pictures Television Hosts Creative Corridor Writers

(November 2, 2022 - Los Angeles, CA) - Sony Pictures Television recently hosted several writers from Creative Corridor, a program created by the U.K.'s Independent Film Trust (IFT) and U.S.-based Roadmap Writers. Seven writers from the U.K. and seven writers from the U.S. were selected to come together to create, co-produce, network and successfully pitch commercial projects. Scribes from the U.S. contingency of  the program who attended the event included Adrian Burks, La’Chris Robinson Jordan, Meemee Taylor, Aden Suchak, Derege Harding, and Moni Oyedepo.

The event was hosted by Brett King,  Sony’s Vice President, Creative Programming, Diversity & Inclusion, alongside Independent Film Trust’s Charlotte Knowles, Tolu Stedford and Adquanita K. Curtis. Executives from Roadmap Writers included Joey Tuccio and James Moorer

King kicked off the evening with a panel discussion with powerhouses Carri Twigg, Founder, Culture House Media, Jasmin Morrison, Sky’s Head of Business Affairs, Original Film, and Jamey Heath, President of Wayfarer Studios. The group talked about empowering diverse writing talent and broadening the range of stories on screen. Writers from Creative Corridor concluded the evening with a discussion on the program’s benefits as well as how their personal journeys have shaped their narratives.

The program launched last year brings together underrepresented writers from both sides of the pond to develop projects for film and TV. It was originally devised by Knowles, Stedford and Curtis, with TV executive and consultant Stacey Carr joining the team this year.

Each writer is currently undertaking in-depth creative development before pitching to executives on both sides of the Atlantic in January.

Sony Pictures Television’s headline sponsorship ensures the Creative Corridor program is free for all and has this year allowed for increased participation, with the addition of slots for four more writers. The U.S.-based screenwriting education and training platform Roadmap Writers is continuing to support the program by helping participants to gain representation and employment, with FilmmarketHub inviting participants to showcase a project on its curated online marketplace.
